Recovery Month

Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate, promote and support treatment and recovery programs throughout the United States.  National Recovery Month also promotes mental health services that can enable those with mental health and substance use disorder to live healthy and rewarding lives.  This year, Recovery Month will continue to promote the message that prevention works, treatment is effective and people recover.

Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery just as we observe health improvements made by individuals managing other health conditions such as diabetes, asthma or heart disease.  National Recovery Month reinforces the message that behavioral health is essential to an individual’s overall health that prevention works and can help to improve quality of life for those individuals and families who have been effected by substance abuse or mental health issues.

Each September, tens of thousands of prevention, treatment, and recovery programs and facilities around the country celebrate Recovery Month.  The 2022 Recovery Month observance will also promote and support evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the strong and proud recovery community and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery possible.

While we recognize that the road to recovery may be difficult, the benefits of preventing and overcoming mental and/or substance use disorders are significant and valuable to individuals, families, and communities.
