PROBATION VICTIM ADVOCATE

POSTION SUMMARY:
The Probation Victim Advocate/ Walk-In Counselor will be a full -time position that reports to the Program Director. The Probation Victim Advocate/ Walk-In Counselor will devote twenty hours each week to working in the Winnebago County Adult Probation Domestic Violence Unit to provide support, information and comprehensive advocacy services which empower victims of domestic violence and foster their autonomy. This employee will then devote twenty hours each week to providing services, both group and individual, to victims of intimate partner violence and to victims not in shelter who request such services.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Has a good, working knowledge of the legal system, resources and communities served by the Agency.
Basic computer skills.
Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Human Services preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
One year full time experience providing professional counseling preferred.
Demonstrated skills in individual, group case management.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
Appropriate certification may be a requirement of the position.

LAW ENFORCEMENT VICTIM ADVOCATE (LEVA)

POSTION SUMMARY:
The Law Enforcement Victim Advocate (LEVA) is a full-time position that reports to the Program Director. The LEVA will provide support, information and comprehensive victim advocacy services which empower victims of domestic violence and foster their autonomy.  In conjunction with officers from the Rockford City Police Department (RCPD) and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Domestic Violence Units, the LEVA will conduct outreach to victims of crimes under investigation by either department.  To best provide these services, the LEVA will be co-located with the RCPD and WCSO DV Units in the Criminal Justice Center.  Outreach to victims of crimes may include but is not limited to phone calls and office visits in the Criminal Justice Center.  The LEVA will refer victims to appropriate community resources and social service agencies.  The LEVA will also conduct follow -up on Lethality Assessment Program assessments conducted in collaboration with Remedies’ shelter staff, provide domestic violence education and ongoing safety planning, including who to notify and how to document any bail or court order violations;
