Sometimes low self-esteem is masked by a “tough guy” image.
Does the person have rigid gender roles?
Stereotyping women makes it easier to believe the need for a male
control and vice versa.
Does the person exhibit frequent mood swings?
Unpredictable behavior is a way of controlling a situation and person.
Is the person jealous of other relationships?
This includes friends and family. Jealousy is not a sign of flattery but
one of control.
When the person is angry do you feel afraid?
Have you changed your life so you will not make your partner angry?
Are you treated toughly by your partner?
Use of physical force to make you do what you may not wish to do is
a power and control issue.
Do you feel threatened by your partner?
Intimidation can come in the form of both verbal and nonverbal
behaviors.
