Is jealous and possessive toward you? Decides who you can be
friends with, checks up on you, accuses you of cheating.
Tries to control you? Gives you orders, makes all the decisions,
doesn’t take your opinion seriously, tells you what to do.
Tries to isolate you? Puts down your friends and family, wants you
to himself/ herself, cuts you off from those who support you.
Scares you? You are afraid of how he/she will react to things, of
making him/her angry, of disagreeing with him/her.
Is verbally abusive? Calls you names, puts you down, criticizes
you.
Is violent or loses his/her temper quickly? Pushes or shoves you,
keeps you from leaving the room. Has a history of fighting,
threatens you, breaks or throws objects.
Blames you and others for his/her problems? Blames you when he/she
mistreats you, says you made them do it, provoked him/her, says he/she
couldn’t help it.
Pressures you for sex? Is forceful or scary around sex, tries to manipulate or guilt you into having sex, does not care whether you
want sex or not.
Abuses drugs and alcohol?
Thinks he/she has a right to be in control of you and that you should
be passive and submissive.
Gets too serious too fast? Is dependent on you, says he/she can’t
live without you, has unrealistic expectations of you, pressures you
for commitment, won’t let you break up.
